    Team Guidelines

Welcome to the Northview Swim Team

    • All swimmers and divers will have to qualify for the team. No one is guaranteed of being on the team, swimming or diving in a certain number of events or receiving a letter.
    • All swimmers and divers are required to have a current medical history/physical on file by October 1. The physical MUST be on the Fulton County form.  Failure to meet this requirement will make you ineligible to participate in the current season (FCBOE rule).
    • All swimmers must adhere to the Northview Code of Conduct. Swimmers are expected to treat their team mates, coaches, meet volunteers and staff with respect and courtesy. The Fulton County Athletics Handbook can be found HERE
    • All swimmers must attend every practice and every meet unless there is a legitimate excuse (illness, death in the family, USS practices or meets). Excessive unexcused absences will result in removal from the team.
    • All swimmers must give 100% at every practice and meet. Swimmers who are on a competitive club team and meet more than 4x a week, are exempt from daily morning practices, but are still required to attend mandatory team practices (dates will be provided).
    • Students are at Northview to learn. If you are unable to keep passing grades, you are subject to dismissal from the team. If you must attend a morning help session for school or make up work missed, you must let Coach know in writing at least 24 hours prior to that help session. Excessive absences (all or partial) from practices or meets due to help sessions will lead to an assumption that the student needs to concentrate more on studies and will be subject to dismissal from the team to do so.
    • Athletics and other extra-curricular activities are a privilege. Swimmers must earn that privilege. Dedication is one way to earn it. Swimmers who are involved in another activity or early classes which cause them to miss practices or meets (all or partial) will need to choose between swimming and the other activities.
    • Swimmers will qualify for a letter on a time and/or point standard in dual meets, invitational meets and the state meet, in addition to other requirements. Time standards are published under "Qualifying Times"

    Lettering:
A swimmer or diver will be eligible, but not guaranteed, for a Varsity Letter if the following criteria are met:

    • Adhere to the Fulton County and Northview Swimming and Diving code of conduct.
    • All swimmers and divers must attend all of the scheduled meets unless otherwise excused by the coach. A Northview Practice/Meet Absentee Form must be filled out completely and given to the coach.
    • Swimmers meet ONE of the following criteria:
      1. Attend all Northview High School swim meets, practices, team meetings and fundraisers.
      2. Meet lettering time qualifications stated below in THREE events (Senior, Junior, Sophomore, and Freshman). This includes participation at all meets.
      3. Seniors will receive a letter ONLY if they have swam all four years and have not received a letter, but they must have been an active participant during the season.

All of these conditions are at the discretion of the coaches.

Work ethic is important! 100% effort must be given at all practices and meets. Effort will also be a deciding factor in lettering. (see page 7 of the Student/Parent Handbook for GHSA Sanctioned Interscholastic Activities; Subheading C under Code of Conduct).

The decision of this policy and the receipt of a letter is solely left up to the coaches discretion.
